Rendova is an island in the Solomons that was captured by the US during the New Georgia campaign. It was used by the navy as a PT Boat base for a period of time. Based on the elongated fins on the missile that the duck is sitting on, I would assume that it was used after the war as a part of the US's missile defense system in the Pacific.

I've never seen the patch before. It looks like it may be Japanese made.

Not a ship Rendova is an island, part of the Solomon islands

Rendova is also associated with President Kennedy and PT 109

Sorry Joe, but you are off base-USS Rendova was CVE-114, a 'jeep' carrier. She saw extensive action in Korea with VMF-212 aboard, I'm guessing the patch is from that era.

The Rendova served as an antisubmarine hunter-killer aircraft carrier from 1954 to around 1959(?). The ship was finally scrapped in 1971. The missile probably represents an antisubmarine weapon, maybe a Subrok missile.

Absolutely stunning. Patch. Could be a torpedo as Allan suggests.

Looks like a Korean War-era HVAR to me. (VMF-212 F4U / USS Rendova)
