Allan H. Posted March 2 #3 Posted March 2 Rendova is an island in the Solomons that was captured by the US during the New Georgia campaign. It was used by the navy as a PT Boat base for a period of time. Based on the elongated fins on the missile that the duck is sitting on, I would assume that it was used after the war as a part of the US's missile defense system in the Pacific. I've never seen the patch before. It looks like it may be Japanese made. Allan
joeclown Posted March 2 #4 Posted March 2 Not a ship Rendova is an island, part of the Solomon islands
joeclown Posted March 2 #5 Posted March 2 Rendova is also associated with President Kennedy and PT 109
TBMflyer Posted March 2 #6 Posted March 2 Sorry Joe, but you are off base-USS Rendova was CVE-114, a 'jeep' carrier. She saw extensive action in Korea with VMF-212 aboard, I'm guessing the patch is from that era. Mark
atb Posted March 2 #7 Posted March 2 The Rendova served as an antisubmarine hunter-killer aircraft carrier from 1954 to around 1959(?). The ship was finally scrapped in 1971. The missile probably represents an antisubmarine weapon, maybe a Subrok missile.

Bearmon Posted March 3 #11 Posted March 3 Absolutely stunning. Patch. Could be a torpedo as Allan suggests.
yokota57 Posted March 3 #12 Posted March 3 Looks like a Korean War-era HVAR to me. (VMF-212 F4U / USS Rendova)
