I just picked this up. Japanese Type14 Nambu pistol, with its holster, as well as the document authorizing U.S. Navy Lieutenant R.B. Flynn (?) to bring it home. The pistol has its tag, indicating that this firearm had been examined and cleared by Joint Intelligence.

The bring-back document, dated 12 October 1945, has been taped together, as it appears to have been folded and torn. Because of this, The last name Flynn could potentially be something else. I've had no luck with cursory online search of "Lieutenant R.B. Flynn."

This firearm came with it's holster, as well as an Enemy Ship/Aircraft Identification card.

Neat piece - I really like the Intelligence hang tag.

Not sure what sources you're looking at, but there are a fair number of "R.B. Flynn"s in WWII Navy Muster Rolls on Ancestry - as well as others with different last letter in surname.

It's not going to be as easy as typing "R.B. Flynn" in Google - you have to use some search wildcards.

If you don't have an Ancestry account, public libraries usually offer free access at their branches.

I used "R* B" in the first name field (An asterisk returns any first names starting with "R", With the "B" including only results with that middle initial), then "FLYN?" (Where an asterisk = unlimited following letters, a question mark is single letter wildcard - that helps narrow it down) in the last name field.  That gave 47 Navy Muster Roll results.  Then it's process of elimination.

Good luck, and congrats.
