I picked up this Mossberg 44US. When I went to pick it up, it had thos sling on it. If this had markings on it they are gone now!

I am sorry I am a little dense and not very smart. All the parts are steel. Does this look like a US sling made during WW2?

It's a US sling.

IMO, late war to post war production.

The steel parts suggest it's mid war production. Could also be a civilian model where the manufacturer used up supplies and made it cheap as possible.

Okay, so it is possible this was a 1944 or later sling that could have been on a US rifle?

When looking at these slings in the wild, I always look at the buckle. If the buckle has a hump (like yours does), I pass as a probable post war sling. Most of the wartime fabric slings have the flat sided buckle (no hump).

I have a Garand sling with a steel buckle and markings just black blobs to the eye. Using the old camcorder night vision trick , I can see that the sling is dated 1943. So either the humped buckles were being used in 1943 or the  buckles were added later.
