Hello..... I am new to this awesome site..!  I have a sword (pictured) that I need some help with.  It is an 1852 Naval Officers Sword and the name of the supplier is "S.N. Meyer, Washington, D.C.".  From my limited research, it appears that most of these "Model 1852" swords bear the name of his son, "N.S. Meyer".  Many of those listed would lead the buyer to believe that these were issued during the Civil War...when, in fact, N.S. Meyer wasn't born until 1870, didn't go into business until "about" 1906 and that was in New York City.  My question...is anyone researching the S.N. Meyer swords..?  I would like to know if they are rare....and, of course, their approximate value.

I used to collect militaria but have given most of my collection to family, sold some and re-united some pieces with the original owners/families....I am 83 years old.  I have had this particular sword for close to 50 years and had it hanging under a military print depicting a naval battle.  I was always impressed with the excellent condition of the "fishskin" covered handle and the wire wrapping.  I would appreciate hearing from collectors that know anything about my S.N. Meyer sword.  So far, it remains a mystery piece to me.  Please contact me thru this site and I will fwd my e-mail address for communication incl a complete set of photos.

Kindest regards to all readers, "El Viejo" aka Tom in Columbus, Ohio
