oldpackrat Posted February 7 #1 Posted February 7 I have had this for several years and thought it was just scrap but recently I saw an image of what was supposed to be GI's as guards at a WW2 POW camp and several of them had this two-chevron-with-a-rocker insignia on their sleeves. Was this ever a thing or was, perhaps, the image some AI weirdness.
Wade20th Posted February 7 #2 Posted February 7 Hello oldpackrat. This just looks to me a staff sergeant rank patch with the top chevron removed. I'm not sure in what context that would have been done. Can we see the picture you were talking about? Thanks, Wade
atb Posted February 7 #3 Posted February 7 Looks like it was created by trimming a Staff Sergeant, Technical Sergeant, or Master Sergeant chevron.
ShibaLegend Posted February 7 #4 Posted February 7 I have a example in a navy grouping I own where something like this was done. Higher rank but was sewn over to appear as a lower one. Maybe a case of "I don't want to purchase another set of chevrons, I'll just modify the ones I have" or "I can't get my hands on the correct rank for whatever reason so I'll modify the ones I have". Could also be something done way after the war for theater purposes or the like.
otter42 Posted February 7 #6 Posted February 7 Link I attached looks like a similar types rank, with same unknown conclusions. I looked thru Emerson's book on chevrons, and didn't find any like your. Top border is much narrower then the bottom, I would guess cut down. https://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/47537-can-anyone-help-with-identifying-this-rank-insignia/

Marshallj Posted February 7 #8 Posted February 7 Another alternative would be a civilian police rank.
patches Posted February 8 #9 Posted February 8 Staff Corporal, it came out at the same time as Corporal Captain LOL
