gearchecker Posted February 1 #1 Posted February 1 I have an 1885 Winchester Low Wall Winder Musket, that's nearly complete. I don't know if the caliber is important or not, It's a 22 short. I need to find a rear peep sight in the correct threading to complete it. It's taken me, and a few great collectors that had the parts I've needed, to get it back together. I'll attach a photo of the rifle fro reference.
gearchecker Posted February 1 Author #2 Posted February 1 Sorry, I can't get all of the images to post correctly. But you'll get the idea.
GWS Posted February 5 #3 Posted February 5 Nice looking Winder musket! Apparently the Winder muskets came standard with Lyman receiver sights unless they were ordered with other special sights. One book says they were Lyman #53 and another book says Lyman #41. Does the base of the sight have any marks of identification? At least it's a known Lyman sight for what that is worth. I'd search for a Lyman sight with both numbers but mostly the #41(I feel that is the sight you have). Does your rifle have the U.S. stamp on the upper tang? Good luck in your search! Steve
Charlie Flick Posted February 5 #4 Posted February 5 If you keep coming up dry you might want to look into this company which, I believe, makes reproduction apertures. That might well meet your need. https://aperturesnmore.com/ Regards, Charlie
gearchecker Posted February 6 Author #5 Posted February 6 I contacted Lyman, and they said that they no longer make a sight apeture for this rifle. I'll try the apetures and more website.
72psb Posted February 6 #6 Posted February 6 Let me look , I may have what you need. Do you need the whole assembly or just the screw in eye piece?
