Maybe I’m missing something but I can’t find out what this ribbon is. It’s on  a WWII Marine aviation uniform. Thanks in advance. image.jpeg.e908bdc92db754763de372822a911086.jpeg

When soldiers, sailors, and marines were leaving the military through the various separation centers, representatives from the VFW were there in force getting veterans signed up to join their organization. One of the "hooks" they used to entice veterans to join was an offer for the VFW to provide the veteran with a set of ribbons for their uniforms.

Imagine being a young service member getting ready to head home. That bright, colorful ribbon looks like a million bucks on the chest. I'm sure that the VFW got a lot of vets to sign up because of that little piece of cloth.

Typically, the person putting the ribbons together placed the VFW ribbon right after any decorations, so the ribbon would end up near the top. You will see the ribbons placed in other locations, on the rack. but by and large, they were mounted on the top row.
