I'm not really sure which forum to post this in, so I'm starting here. Looking for info on a William Maurer, WWII. He was U.S. Army mechanic of some kind, (not sure if Air Corps or regular Army). I'm told he was stationed in England. Originally from Canton OH.

Any help will be appreciated!

When you say deceased, do you mean KIA or he'd dead now (after the war)?

Wasn't KIA, made it home. I have little info on this guy, trying to look him up for his grandson. I appreciate what you two shared, and thank you, but I don't think it's the same guy, as my guy was in England and married an English woman. I get that just because he was in OR or HI at some point, that doesn't mean he didn't get to England, or that he hadn't already been in England. It just doesn't seem likely.

Look at the morning report (above) again; it is for a Maurer with service number 15323463 and shows him assigned to a unit (3403rd Signal Service Detachment) in England. I believe this is who you are looking for.

His draft card (ancestrydotcom):

His enlistment record:

Orders for him dated 14 Nov 44 transferring him to the 3403rd Signal Service Detachment, which is the unit in England in the above morning report from 21 Nov 44. His Military Occupation Specialty (MOS) is shown as 745 = Radio Mechanic (AAF).

This and other documents for him at NARA can be found at this link (at present, morning reports are only digitized up to Dec 44:

https://catalog.archives.gov/search?page=1&q=15323463

His find a grave info shows that he was a WWII veteran and that his wife was originally from Reading, England:

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/203191836/constance_m-maurer

According to VA BIRLS data from ancestrydotcom and his draft card, he was honorably discharged from the Army during May 46.

I agree with jumpship, that same William Maurer dob 15 Dec 1923 is buried next to his wife, whose stone even lists her as being English.

Thanks! You guys are awesome! His grandson will be pleased.
