Guy56 Posted January 27 #1 Posted January 27 Here’s another one of my oddities, an experimental combat vehicle crewman’s helmet that is probably a T54-3. The QM Corps identified the T54-3 as a single-piece football-style helmet weighing approximately 2.75 lbs. (1.25 kg) and equipped with integrated communications equipment. The helmet was tested in 1955 and 1956, but was not adopted because the QM Corps and Signal Corps determined the T54-3 was incompatible with existing fire control systems and the M9 gas mask. I also included some frames from an Army film on the M47 tank that appear to show this CVC helmet. The helmet is missing an ear pad and the microphone, likely a M-51/UR microphone, is also missing. The helmet also contained a tag that identified Victory Plastics was the maker and indicated a 9 ply crown and the ear area was 4 ply. The front of the helmet includes a largely illegible white painted label, but QMC is legible at the bottom. Enjoy.
