Piper42nd Posted January 26 #1 Posted January 26 Does anyone know of a publication that describes the introduction of shelter halves and the different modifications and a timeline of those modifications? I have a lead on one from the pre ww1 era but have no way of knowing if it's original. Thanks.
Outtair Posted January 26 #2 Posted January 26 Paul, I have this one a Marine Corps named WWI, 54x104. I will sell mine for $50 plus $10 to ship. Tim Curry
Piper42nd Posted January 26 Author #3 Posted January 26 Hi Tim. Actually my name's not Paul not that it matters much. My question still remains, how do I know it's ww1? There must be a publication out there that describes these. Harvey
Outtair Posted January 26 #4 Posted January 26 Harvey, I do not know what the MIL SPEC number on a WWI Shelter Half would be or where to find it. The expert on WWI is Hayes Otoupalik , you could contact him for the exact numbers which again maaybe measuring an existing example. Here is a photo from his WWI Handbook. Tim

Illinigander Posted January 28 #6 Posted January 28 Piper- You need to find a copy of "The Federal Civil War Shelter Tent by Fredrick C. Gaede. There is a lot about CW shelter halfs, but he also has a time line description titled: Appendix 4- Epilogue for the Shelter Tent. 1866-1994 with lots of time line changes during this period. There is also a data base. He is the expert on 19th Century Accourtements. illinigander
