I posted this years ago but this inter war topic has really come to life and hopefully someone has insight into these medals. USS Salt Lake City Iron Man Ship Scouting force medals 1934-35 in silver and bronze. 1 1/2" tall

After years of occasional searching I finally got a hit on these medals, well kind of sort of. LOL is this AI helping me?

Aloha,

 

These are Bronze and Silver medallions from events during the Iron Man Trophy competition which was a Pacific Fleet Scouting Force event.  The Scouting Force would sortie to Hawaii and points West, having athletic ship to ship and international competitions at every port visited.  The USS SALT LAKE CITY won the Baseball crown in 1935.

The Scouting Force - 1933

Pearl Harbor Navy Yard, Oahu, Hawaii - Scouting Force ships at, and off, the yard, 2 February 1933. Cruisers tied up at 1010 Dock are (from left to left center) USS Augusta (CA 31), USS Chicago (CA 29) and USS Chester (CA 27). USS Northampton (CA 26) is alongside the dock in the center, with USS Kane (DD 235) in the adjacent Marine Railway and USS Fox (DD 234) tied up nearby. USS Louisville (CA 28) is in the center distance. Moored off her bow and at the extreme right are USS Salt Lake City (CA 25) and USS Pensacola (CA 24).
