"For a short time early in the War, the Marine Corps contracted their own M1907 slings- they had fewer holes, used mahogany leather and black thread. After several thousand were produced (50,000?) they switched back to the standard M1907 sling."

There are a number of threads on the CMP forum about USMC slings. I had a chance to buy one once and passed on it when I probably shouldn't have. They are pretty distinct looking.

I've read about the marine slings but I think mine is a standard 1907 sling with USMC markings added after issue.

Always a possibility.
