McLenn2025 Posted January 10 #1 Posted January 10 Good morning to everyone :)) What I am posting here is the holy grail of my collection. Ever since I got into collecting Vietnam War related items (focusing mainly on jungle jackets) and discovered this forum, I wanted to have an id'd jungle jacket or shirt in my collection. Especially since I saw all of you guys' great posts on identified groupings. Thanks to forum member Beezman, this dream has finally come true :D It is from him, that I acquired this phenomenal grouping attributed to Colonel McKenna, who served as a Deputy Staff Judge Advocate at Da Nang Air Base from July of 1970 until July of 1971 (back then he held the rank of Captain). The grouping consists of his jungle jacket and his og-107 type 2 utility shirt as well as his NARA record. As a bonus, his JAG insignia is featured in Beezman's "Yankee Air Pirates Part 2" :) I hope you guys can enjoy this as much as I do (I am beaming with joy as I am writing this) :D I will divide this post into first his og-107 type 2 utility shirt and then his jungle jacket, as I am afraid, that the image files might be too big PS: Please excuse my summary of him and the grouping as I still have to get the hang of posting parts of my collection and of what to include in my summary or not :) Hopefully the pictures tell more than I do haha
McLenn2025 Posted January 10 Author #2 Posted January 10 Here is his jungle jacket dated 1969. Except for his Captain's bars, all the insignia on the jacket is in-country made :) What I found interesting is, that he wore an early type og-107 with a late type jungle jacket in 1970/71. The latter would have been readily available, but the type 2 og-107 shirt wasn't produced in that large quantities as far as I know and other shirts would have been easier to acquire. But it could be, that he still had this shirt from back in mid-1960s with all the insignia applied and just continued to wear it (as many did). But correct me if I am wrong as I am here to learn :D
beezman Posted January 10 #3 Posted January 10 Great post! I am glad this grouping has found a good home :)
