Civilian Evacuation of Sumatra, 1942

Does anyone have knowledge of US aircraft involved in the evacuation of Sumatra in Feb/March 1942? The available literature gives a story that both military and civilian evacuations were in the main conducted by British, Commonwealth and Dutch forces, and mostly by sea. However, a lady in our village (in Hampshire, UK), age 87, has a firm memory of being evacuated on the last American plane to leave Sumatra. ‘A huge black shadow swooped down, I was thrown in and off we went’. She was taken to Calcutta, India. As she was only 3 at the time she is rather hazy on date, place and aircraft type but she is insistent that it was ‘the last American plane’. Can anyone on this group help me out with more information about what might have happened please?
