Colt.45-94 Posted December 31, 2025 #1 Posted December 31, 2025 A unique canteen in my collection, it's a French Mle.1877/15, 2-liter canteen, colonial Khaki color cover, rather than the standard "Horizon Blue". I believe it was used by a volunteer of The American Ambulance Corps in WWI. It is heavily Graffitied with text, mostly place names, but also what may be the owner's name, initials, and maybe a unit number? Some of the markings are quite faint. Perhaps others here can make them out?
Colt.45-94 Posted December 31, 2025 Author #2 Posted December 31, 2025 Some background info. I aquired this canteen from a militaria dealer at an antique marketplace I frequent several years ago. Also, the text is only on one side, the other side appears completely blank.
Colt.45-94 Posted December 31, 2025 Author #3 Posted December 31, 2025 Correction: I guess this canteen would be related to someone who was in the pre-1917 *American Ambulance Field Service* member, rather than the wartime AM AMB Corps,
