M1904 halter.

I have been struggling with halters and bridles for some time now so forgive my ignorance. I have found several photos of these halters some have what appears to be an additional strap. I don't know if it was a brow strap and deemed unnecessary or what it was for. If anyone knows a good source for bridles and halters please let me know.

Mr. McPheeters seems to know a great deal about them but failed to put that information in book on military saddles.
