BIRD999 Posted December 21, 2025 #1 Posted December 21, 2025 Just wondering if these might be Civil War buttons? If any look like they might be I can provide more pictures
Bob B Posted December 21, 2025 #2 Posted December 21, 2025 Hard to tell which backmarks go with which buttons, but the Wm. Smith backmark and Scovills & Co. backmark predate the Civil War.
Bob B Posted December 21, 2025 #3 Posted December 21, 2025 The cuff buttons with the Evans, Extra Quality, and Scovill Mfg Co Waterbury backmarks are maybes since those markings were used during the Civil War and well beyond.

CAC1901 Posted December 21, 2025 #7 Posted December 21, 2025 With buttons they need to be lined up and a photo taken of front and back sides, taking care to keep them in the same position. Otherwise its just pieces of a jigsaw puzzle.
BIRD999 Posted December 24, 2025 Author #8 Posted December 24, 2025 Here they are individually in order front to back. The ones in the group photo have no back stamping.

danimal03 Posted December 24, 2025 #11 Posted December 24, 2025 Hello, Numbers 6-9 are Civil War era (hopefully I counted right). The rest of the individual ones are post-War. The brightly gilted eagle button with 13 stars made by Waterbury is a reproduction attempt of a CS button. The last pic has a bunch of buttons. There is a Navy button in there which I did not see in the individual pics, so I won't comment on the last group button picture. cheers!
