RMEAV8R Posted December 13, 2025 #1 Posted December 13, 2025 This helmet has been identified by the seller as an Air Force P-4A. Last inspection date is in 1970. I'm not familiar with these and would be interested in an opinion by someone with more knowledge on the early helmets. Thanks
phantomfixer Posted December 13, 2025 #2 Posted December 13, 2025 It is not a P-4 or any of the P series helmets looks to be a civilian helmet… Need interior pics of the earcups and external side view…… if I had to guess .. a modified HGU-2 or 22
amateuraero Posted December 13, 2025 #3 Posted December 13, 2025 Most likely a Protection Inc. shell made from thinner fiberglass to be lighter weight? May also be known as a DH-151 and a similar type helmet configuration later designation HGU-33/P.

I'll get better photos shortly. The seller got it at an estate sale a few years ago, said there was a box of photos and military memorabilia in a box with it. They are going to contact me when (if) they locate it.
amateuraero Posted December 14, 2025 #5 Posted December 14, 2025 Just noticed this. There might be three holes in the helmet shell underneath the single visor housing? If so, could be a modified HGU-2A/P helmet or a lightweight custom shell with the three holes added?
