K9Bug Posted December 7, 2025 #1 Posted December 7, 2025 My grandfather passed away in 1994 and I have a lighter from him, assuming from his time in the Army during the Korean War. Wondering if anyone can share any details on the lighter. Seems to be an air base, however, he was Army?? Thanks
yokota57 Posted December 7, 2025 #2 Posted December 7, 2025 6147th Tactical Control Group // 6147th ABS was at Chunchon (K-47). They probably had US Army AAA or other support there.
yokota57 Posted December 7, 2025 #3 Posted December 7, 2025 USAF and US Army had joint Ground Observer teams operating out of K-47.
K9Bug Posted December 7, 2025 Author #4 Posted December 7, 2025 Thanks for the info. Really never knew anything of his service years, he never really spoke of it. As kids, the only story we heard was how he got his false teeth. He said he was carrying part of a bazoooka and fell backwards into a hole or something and it knocked his teeth out. No clue if that was truth or just a good story he told to entertain us 😁

yokota57 Posted December 7, 2025 #6 Posted December 7, 2025 Bottom line: There are any number scenarios that resulted in this lighter ending up with your Grandfather. He may or may not have been at K-47. Further information (Name/Rank/Serial#/Records etc.) would help the US Army researchers here on the USMF.

Should be: ..."any number OF scenarios"... //// Old Age typo.
