Erwan Posted November 19, 2025 #1 Posted November 19, 2025 Hi everyone, i am currently discussing with a M38 seller, and i have some interrogations i would like to share with you : -Elastic strap with red stripes supposed to be on the Rawlings version of the M38 : since this part is movable, could have been changed -Wilson stamp on the leather but no extra stitch on the inside of the earflap -Last rivet of the brim visible like Spalding and Rawlings What are yout thoughts about this item ? Thank you in advance Sincerly Erwan
Erwan Posted November 29, 2025 Author #2 Posted November 29, 2025 Hello Everyone, finally purchased it and received yesterday ;) With and without the hood and a pair of NOS polaroid goggles I need a pair of R14 receivers now ;) Cheers Erwan
Erwan Posted April 18 Author #3 Posted April 18 Hello everyone, i am back with some new items : -HS 30 U headset and a JK 26 cord to complete the Wilson helmet -dust m1 respirator - a 7 3/8 spalding helmet equiped with a pair of R14 radio speakers inc. receivers, but with no cord - a 7 1/2 Rawlings helmet equiped with a corded R14 radio speakers inc. receivers i noticed 2 variations of the Rawlings patent, have you guys ever noticed it too ? or its just a visual effect of the 6 mismatched with a 8 ? I notice, the loop on the S of Rawlings reaches the L on the 130.878 patent and not on the 130.678 patent 130.878 and 130.678 hope you enjoyed Cheers Erwan
M24 Chaffee Posted April 19 #4 Posted April 19 Very nice collection! I enjoy armored gear. I haven’t handled many tanker helmets so I can’t really speak on the loop of the S? Probably just a different stamp font application? I believe there are variations. I’m thinking that the number 6 is actually an 8. Hard to tell. Regards, Frank
Erwan Posted April 20 Author #5 Posted April 20 Good evening Frank, Thank you for your answer. I do enjoy them too ;) I was looking in The US tanker helmet book, and saw there was 2 patents from Rawlings (1941 and 1942), one of them had the digit 6, probably the other and the lastest had the digit 8 : see in the right top corner of the drawing Coulndt take a more clear picture but in real life it does look like a 6 : 130 678 Cheers Erwan
