flyingfortress Posted April 23, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 23, 2009 I acquired this original WWI Aviator wing about 7 years ago. It is a shirt or sweetheart size wing measuring about 1 5/8" wide. Stamped on the back is STERLING and W CO below. The hallmark is that of the William Link Company of Newark, New Jersey. What's interesting about the hallmark is that the interlocked rounds of a chain form a link, whereby, the W is in the left round and CO in the right round. So what you see is W (link) CO. Even the pin is marked W CO, and then there's the old style locking clasp. I believe this style wing was issued in 1917. The front has excellent detail and I believe the US is 10K gold. WWI wings are seldom encountered in this size with a maker's mark. Enjoy the images! Regards, George
John Cooper Posted April 24, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 24, 2009 George tahnks for posting! There appears to be lots of detail present in the feathers along with hand cut gold or gold plated U.S. on such a small wing. John
none Posted April 29, 2009 Share #3 Posted April 29, 2009 Look closely at the US it is the same design and cut out letters that we have been discussing on the Campbell WC Link wing. Joe
