gorio1961 Posted April 23, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 23, 2009 Fellow forum members, Today, I was given a recently deceased WWII veteran's khaki uniform shirt complete with rank, ribbons, hash marks and a couple of patchs that I don't recognize. I will upload the pictures tomorrow. Along with the shirt, I was given his medals (which include a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star, bith named). I belive these medals a U.S. Govt re-issues, since they are in such great shape. I have posted scans of the backsides below. Here's my delimna, I am contemplating removing the patches and insignias off of the shirt to place in the shadow box. Should I do this? Do you guys have any "samples" of WWII shadowboxes that I could reference and do any of you guys have any information on Karl A. Hoeppner? Thanks in advance,
Teamski Posted April 23, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 23, 2009 I would never remove anything off of an original uniform. I would find patches that match the ones on the uniform and use those instead. The medals are very recent re-issues, and privately named, so to ruin a good uniform to match patches with medals that aren't "original" to the recipiant would be a sad thing to do. Just my personal opinion. -Ski

Jim Baker Posted April 23, 2009 Share #6 Posted April 23, 2009 How about taking the metal insignia off, dry cleaning and pressing the shirt, putting everything back on and framing the whole shirt? Kind of like a sports jersey??
