I seem to recall there was a thread with suspect engraved medals a while ago. I just received an offer to buy this silver star engraved with a KIA date. Problem is the officer is listed in numerous morning reports well after that KIA date  on the medal. He is listed as having received the SS in Aug 44, but the citation says he returned after the dangerous patrol with all members and some prisoners.

THoughts on this?

That medal is totally bogus.

I felt that way but could not nail down why. Can you point out some of the details?

Looking again I see it is a 9 not an 8, so the dates are not a problem. I suspect there were not many medals engraved with the KIA on them is that correct?

Posthumous WWII US Army Silver Star medals only had the name of the soldier and were all hand engraved between 1941-1949. Script engraving also counts as hand engraving.

The one you have is from a known faker in Florida.

This style of fake engraving came from an individual who set up at the Wagon Wheel Flea Market in St. Petersburg FL in the early 2000’s.

Thank you all for the comments. I passed the link on to the seller so he would know.
