Phillip Brandt Posted October 15, 2025 #1 Posted October 15, 2025 One or two are a little outside the date range, but close. There are some items in this bunch that are surplus for me so I'll try to put those up for sale after I've had a good look at them, most notably the feed bags and saddle bag liners. Does anyone know if the M1912 horse came in a lined and unlined version, I got two but one is without the lining. Thanks
Phillip Brandt Posted October 16, 2025 Author #2 Posted October 16, 2025 I see I made an error but I don't see a way to edit it out. So I meant to ask does anyone know if the horse covers not blanket have a lined and unlined version. I have one unlined and it looks like it was made that way.
Dragoon Posted October 20, 2025 #3 Posted October 20, 2025 Some nice items. Yes, in answer to your question regarding the M1912 covers there was both a lined and unlined version, of course the lining could be removed but I think you would see signs of that, it would be hard to remove all traces of the lining, from what I can see of yours it appears to be an original unlined version.
Phillip Brandt Posted October 22, 2025 Author #4 Posted October 22, 2025 Thanks for the information. The unlined one has been damaged and repaired in a couple places but no sign it ever had a liner.

If not, this would be the first time seeing a 1st Cavalry Division unit specific Shoulder Insignia with horse head in the left field. By the way is it a cloth type insignia or is it constructed out of a different material such as duck or leather? Aloha, John
Phillip Brandt Posted October 29, 2025 Author #6 Posted October 29, 2025 The Horse head faces forward on both sides and appears to be made of leather.
kiaiokalewa Posted October 31, 2025 #7 Posted October 31, 2025 Too cool. A few year back I wrote several articles regarding the original series of nineteen unit specific patches for the First Cavalry Division, that Lt Col. Dorcy designed under the direction GENERAL HOWZE, the C.O. of the division. Make sense that the identifying insignia was crafted out of leather do to it application. When you ever get the opportunity I really appreciate and closer and clear image of just the insignia and both sides too. Neat the it was made in opposing pairs and having documented evidence of such will discount future denial of these ever existing from the circa. 1922-1934. Now, I need to find one of these! Attached is a complete OQMG authorized PQMD issued original series. The other batch with varying quality were local procured or stable made and worn by the troops shoulder insignia of the First Cavalry Division.
