> Evidently POTUS wanted to give Eisenhower's sword to King Charles, from the National Archives collection, and was refused, leading to a resignation (or firing) of the Archivist involved. Public officials cannot be deaccessioning anything in museum collections. I don't know anything about the sword. But violating Museum Ethics is unacceptable.

It wasn't clear "which" sword they wanted to gift to King Charles. There are a number of swords in the museum.  Many gifted to Ike as Supreme Commander.   They ended up giving Kind Charles a replica of the West Point Cadet Sword as Ike would have worn at a cadet.  So, does that mean they wanted to give away Ike's actual cadet sword?

I might add the currently produced cadet swords are  rather chintzy.  Pretty lousy gift.

Why anyone would think the whole idea is acceptable is anyone's guess, the whole thing is a bit weird. Regardless, it would of probably ended up in the skip at Woodfarm or shoved into storage with the rest of the stuff the royal family don't want the public to see or have knowledge of (packed full of odd very questionable items).....
