Ancestry is a good source for information if you plan on collecting named Marine Corps items.

It looks like he made it to France as a replacement with the 5th Marines in September 1918 which would put him with the 5th during Meuse-Argonne. He was assigned to the 66th Company assigned to 1st BN. under Major LeRoy Hunt. (Google Meuse River Crossing November 10, 1918).

Having survived the Meuse River Crossing Gideon served in Germany with the Army of Occupation. He was discharged in Mid 1919. However he may have reenlisted in 1942 and served in WWII.

+Thank you.  Not collecting; simply trying to help someone return it to its family.  I don't have an ancestry account, and sent them what I could.
