Siamundo Posted September 28, 2025 #1 Posted September 28, 2025 Anyone recognize these or know what they are, and when/where/and by whom they might have been worn? I think they might possibly be Vietnam/1970's era but not sure when or where made.
MilitaryPicker1941 Posted October 3, 2025 #2 Posted October 3, 2025 Want to say Hong Kong made 1980’s
Siamundo Posted October 5, 2025 Author #3 Posted October 5, 2025 OK. Any idea who might have worn them , if in fact they would have even been worn? Obviously they look like the design is based on the Ranger scroll design, but I am not aware of the US Army having Commando Companies (Of course they might, I just don't know). Maybe they are novelty or tounge in cheek?
QED4 Posted October 5, 2025 #4 Posted October 5, 2025 They may be ROTC patches to show advanced training. They look Asian made because anybody can order custom made patches through Alibaba or several other Chinese websites.
Siamundo Posted October 5, 2025 Author #5 Posted October 5, 2025 Intereting idea, thanks QED4. I hadn't thought about the possibility ofROTC.
sfcollector Posted October 7, 2025 #6 Posted October 7, 2025 These are reproductions of the scrolls made for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Quick Reaction Force Companies, Operational Detachment B-56, Project Sigma, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne). The originals were made in-country in Vietnam during the Vietnam War between 1966-1967 (reference: page 433, Special Forces of the United States Army, by LTC Ian Sutherland). An original scroll for the 1st Commando Company is below:
sfcollector Posted October 7, 2025 #7 Posted October 7, 2025 Just another thought - it kind of surprises me that this scroll was faked. It is a fairly obscure piece of insignia and one very rarely encountered. I guess the fakers dig deep for material, or maybe reproductions were made for a veteran, or perhaps there actually was Army "Commando" companies after the Vietnam War.
Siamundo Posted October 14, 2025 Author #8 Posted October 14, 2025 Thank you for the additional information, i appreciate it. Interestingly enough, I have a copy of Special Forces of the United States Army, but it dawned on me to thumb through it.
