Squale69 Posted September 15, 2025 #1 Posted September 15, 2025 Hello, Can you confirm this is a MBU-12/P oxygen mask ? Any way to identify it as USAF, USN or foreign country ? Thanks for the feedbacks ! P.A
phantomfixer Posted September 16, 2025 #2 Posted September 16, 2025 Looks to be a 12/p with a setup for the NBC hood and gas mask filter… try looking for MBU-19/p….
HUD69 Posted September 16, 2025 #3 Posted September 16, 2025 It indeed an 1990 dated MBU-12/P used as a NBC mask. Seems the rest of the hood (MBU-19) has been cut off. Not very many foreign air forces used these, so my bet would be on US use.
Squale69 Posted September 16, 2025 Author #4 Posted September 16, 2025 Thanks guys for your replies ! I had no idea about this mask... I found some pics on the net... Wich helmets were used by USAF pilots at that time ? What aircrafts ? P.A
ffuries Posted December 12, 2025 #5 Posted December 12, 2025 For USAF we were using the HGU-55/P helmet with the AERPS mask. FYI: On the AERPS mask assembly there were two "Knobs" on either side of the mask hood. Since the hood is worn under the helmet, there is no way to remove during an emergency. In the event of an emergency you would pull the knobs and this would tear the hood assembly allowing you to remove the mask in a water landing situation. Sort of like opening a pack of gun or cigarettes. Leaving what you have on the mask. You can see one of the knobs in the attached image.
