Help Date Gold on Black Sgt Patch

I am trying to get a general date of these gold on black Staff Sergeant patches I picked up recently at an estate.  Not much militaria at this estate and I have a hard time believing the guy would have served in WWII, maybe his father (?).  The patches are in mint condition.
