mikie Posted September 11, 2025 #1 Posted September 11, 2025 Just stumbled into this on eBay. Converts to about US $120. I can’t figure out what the description on the reverse is actually trying to say. Any thoughts? 🤔 mikie
themick Posted September 12, 2025 #2 Posted September 12, 2025 I wouldn't give $5 for it. All that is there is a Navy officer's button from the 30s to 50s. That's all. The rest if fluff. Nothing to prove it is a "relic" from the Battle of Midway, and even it belonged to a sailor in that battle, that wouldn't make it worth more than a few bucks - the price of a run of the mill WWII USN officer's dress button if you need one. The back description does two things: (1) it give a very brief reference to the Battle of Midway. (2), it states you are receiving a WWII button made by Waterbury, perhaps the most common military button manufacturer of the period. Also, apparently you get some sort of trading card. Steve
The Rooster Posted September 12, 2025 #3 Posted September 12, 2025 Its says it was made with the same tools used in WW2 to make buttons. 10 to 1 it was made in China. Even the wording sounds off. Look at the sellers name! lol "Enjoy your manufactured WW2 button Relic"? It looks like a fake repro button for 120 dollars. Run dont walk... lol $120.00 for a button!!!! 🤣
Gear Fanatic Posted September 12, 2025 #4 Posted September 12, 2025 Trading cards for militaria? What is it trying to be, Pokémon? Really trying to hard to sell a junk Drawer item. Is there it more of these type of listings?
JohnK83882 Posted September 20, 2025 #5 Posted September 20, 2025 I've seen a lot of this packaging to make small bits of historical stuff look impressive. If you like it, that's fine but it's marketing and I would look on it all with a lot of skepticism. A lot of folks can send you a button if you really want one.
