Hello everybody,

My name is Richard. I'm from Canada.

I'm interested by the Korean War. The origin of my interest for this conflict comes from the fact that it was during this period that my father served in the Royal Canadian Air Force (1950-1955). My goal is to learn more about the uniforms worn by the American army during this conflict.

Best,

Richard.

Hello, Richard. Welcome to the forum. This is my dad just before he left for Korea in 1950. His unit, the 2d Infantry Division, was the first division to arrive in Korea directly from the US when the war broke out. I was born the day the armistice was signed.

Hello,

Thanks for your welcome and sharing this beautiful photo of your father! He had great style! And he was part of the prestigious 2nd Infantry Division!

Do you remember which field jacket he wore?

Truth is, I rarely saw my dad when I was growing up or I was too young to remember the times I did. Almost everything I know about his 37-year military career I found in footlockers in the attic after he passed away. He kept very extensive records, even though his files were destroyed in Pyongyang, North Korea, when the 2d Infantry Division had to abandon their trains to escape the advancing CHICOM and NKPA forces retaking the North Korean capital. Dad didn't talk about the three wars he was in.

He was with the 72d Heavy Tank Battalion, 2d Infantry Division, from 1948-51. He was the battalion motor sergeant.

It must have been a very emotional moment when you found your father's archives.

Your father lived through three wars! I understand why he didn't talk about it. Emotionally difficult times, obviously, despite the military's training. Thanks for sharing.👍
