P-59A Posted August 26, 2025 #1 Posted August 26, 2025 So, buttons were kind of a meh to me for a long time, that is until I found some metal detecting. I know what most of them are now. See if you can figure them out. That top row of the top photo, the ones with the wreaths still has me stumped.
AustinO Posted August 26, 2025 #2 Posted August 26, 2025 Those star/wreath buttons are commonly found on Army HBTs from WW2.

P-59A Posted August 26, 2025 Author #4 Posted August 26, 2025 The smooth round buttons are from the AAC B-1 Coverall
P-59A Posted August 26, 2025 Author #5 Posted August 26, 2025 The glass buttons and US Army buttons are off of denim utility clothes.

Ok, copy that. The base was only operational a couple of years. Construction started in 42 and that fits with the early buttons.

Dad had some of those buttons in his knickknacks box. Maybe they were off the uniform he was wearing in my profile picture taken in 1940-41. I’d give you a LIKE, but I’m all out. mikie
JohnK83882 Posted August 28, 2025 #9 Posted August 28, 2025 I think the small white two hole sew-through buttons are underwear buttons.
P-59A Posted August 28, 2025 Author #10 Posted August 28, 2025 I agree they are on long johns, but they also show up on the denim clothing too. The photo shows a well worn example.,
P-59A Posted August 28, 2025 Author #11 Posted August 28, 2025 I took a look around. Pictured is an original coat in very good condition. It looks to me that missing buttons were replaced with those long john buttons. I found everything at what had been a tent encampment used during the WW2 construction of Blythe AAF. This is in the Mojave Desert, I lived in the high desert for a few years and it gets very cold in the high desert. Lets say you are right, these are long john buttons. To tell the truth that is what I always thought. My understanding was changed some by photos of denim with white buttons.
Scott C. Posted August 28, 2025 #12 Posted August 28, 2025 Those Air Corps coveralls are very nice - first time I've seen one.

Like everything else, If it wasn't used up in the war, if it had another use then it got used up post war. Painters and mechanics mostly.
