Unit Identification on Mills 100 rd Cartridge Belt

Hey Guys, I picked up this Mills 100 round belt and was hoping someone may be able to help in ID'ing the unit. It's pretty vague as marking is simple. Thanks in advance!

If a unit marking, my interpretation is Company/Battery/Troop, 3rd Regiment/Battalion/Squadron of Infantry/Cavalry/Artillery, soldier number 54.

I automatically assumed it was an individuals or unit’s marking as I’ve seen similar on pieces of equipment. What else would it be? It is rather vague and unfortunately doesn’t identify the parent (?) command regiment. I  was just happy to find a good condition Mills belt at a reasonable price. Thanks

No way to tell of course. In my opinion the way its marked = likely state guard / militia. Probably a 3rd regt / company D.
