Stratum Posted August 22, 2025 #1 Posted August 22, 2025 Recently picked up this very nice 2001 dated extra-large PASGT helmet off of Ebay. My first ever PASGT helmet! Unfortunately the seller unscrewed the liner kind of sloppily, leading to the 3 back screws having their paint chipped of and one being a bit deformed now. At least he secured it back before selling it and on the bright side I was able to see the markings that would have been hidden by the liner which I needed to see to be able to confirm it was an XL. All in all a pretty neat helmet. Very happy to have gotten my hands on one! P.S. Anyone know if the 2001 produced ones are harder to find or something? All the ones I've seen before on Ebay, looking at the ones that have already sold, were the 1990 produced ones. The XLs were only manufactured in 90' and 01'. Also, anyone know why is it purposely stamped and spelled "PAGST" instead of "PASGT"? Thanks!
Pep Posted September 10, 2025 #2 Posted September 10, 2025 In the crown of this helmet there should be a two digit number, possibly in a circle. what is that number? Pic of the XL is too close to see it properly. thanks,
Stratum Posted September 10, 2025 Author #3 Posted September 10, 2025 I'll take a look once I'm home tonight. I can also try and get a better picture tonight. My phones' camera is a bit busted so bear with me!

Pep Posted September 11, 2025 #5 Posted September 11, 2025 Thank you, I believe this indicates a 2002 mfg date for the helmet.

AFAIK XLs only made 2 limited runs equaling about 2,000 helmets in total, 1,000 in 1990 and then 1,000 again in 2001, but maybe thats the case.

All I can say is the crown stamp is generally accepted as the date of manufacture. Contract date is the date the contract was issued, not necessarily the date of manufacture.

Thanks!
MilNut Posted September 12, 2025 #9 Posted September 12, 2025 The SP0100-01-XXX is the contract date (2001). If I remember correctly the 02 is the mold number..

If I remember correctly the 02 is the mold number.. 02 is the date stamp. The mold number usually has the size letter be for it with a dash in between. In this case XL-1 where the one is the mold number. At least that is what I read.
