Wft2180 Posted August 15, 2025 #1 Posted August 15, 2025 Hello all, forgot to do an introduction but better late than never, I’m a young collector from CA (I know ew), and I’ve been collecting since I was little as my grandfather served in WW2. Thankyou for all in advance for answering any questions I have, my collection mainly focuses on Vietnam Special Forces, Naval Special Warfare, WW2 FSSF, USMC Raiders, and especially Cased WW2 Medal sets. Thankyou again for allowing me to be a part of this amazing forum, I only wish I found out about it years ago.
mikie Posted August 15, 2025 #2 Posted August 15, 2025 Hey, don’t knock California too badly. It’s got its faults (bad earthquake pun 😁). But at least up here in the SF Bay Area the weather is pretty darned good most of the time. Sure beats my native Upstate New York weather for sure. mikie
Wft2180 Posted August 15, 2025 Author #3 Posted August 15, 2025 Haha agreed, here in SoCal, the weather is a lot nicer than upstate NY where I also used to reside, too much snow lol
Gear Fanatic Posted August 15, 2025 #4 Posted August 15, 2025 at least it's not like last summer, it got to 110 where I live! absolutely nutz. I'll take being cold all day over being hot. still can't complain, it's SoCal...
Wft2180 Posted August 15, 2025 Author #5 Posted August 15, 2025 My thoughts exactly, I’d rather be cold than too hot, right now it’s fairly warm here, I’m just glad I live in a place so close to so many collectors shows
aerialbridge Posted August 15, 2025 #6 Posted August 15, 2025 Los Angeles is "ewww", but most of OC is quite nice. And you can't beat the weather. Beautiful sunny 75 and low humidity today at noon. IMO, the hottest summers were four or five years ago over the past 30 years, the past few, at least in OC have been not bad as far as triple digit days. Having lived in Minnee-soh-tah, DC and Miami for the first 20 years of life, I'll take the West Coast six ways to Sunday. And kudos to those who feel the inverse, otherwise the country would tip over....like that one Congressman worried about Guam doing.
Wft2180 Posted August 15, 2025 Author #7 Posted August 15, 2025 Oh yeah I feel you, been in SoCal my entire life except for a brief stint in NY, but having family in Texas makes me appreciate dry heat as opposed to the high humidity. I’ll take that dry desert air any day of the week
aerialbridge Posted August 15, 2025 #8 Posted August 15, 2025 Amen. Humidity is the worst for me. Florida may have a lot of great points, but the humidity and "no seeums" (tiny biting flying insects you can't see, hence the name) nixes it for me. Been there, done Florida. Also, I like mountains, flat gets old. DC. well, I'll just say I have nice memories living there as a kid and teen from 1964-74, but you couldn't pay me to live in the Metro DC area today.
Wft2180 Posted August 15, 2025 Author #9 Posted August 15, 2025 Yes especially the mountains part, there are very few states where you can drive from the beach to the desert to the mountains in one day like you can in California. Just gotta stay away from downtown LA lol
aerialbridge Posted August 15, 2025 #10 Posted August 15, 2025 Hopefully, better days are ahead for those of us in California that would like to see better days, and haven't pulled up stakes. The weather, my fruit trees, and having a great neighborhood have kept me here. Along with avoiding downtown LA like the plague, try to stay off the I-60 (aka, "Pomona freeway"). The CHP refers to it as "Blood Alley" because of stories like the one below from earlier this week. Too many poorly maintained junkers and crazy car, SUV and pickup drivers and all the big rig drivers heading east from Long Beach and the Port of LA, who are rightfully stressed and ticked off by all the jackalopes cutting them off and not letting them change lanes when they need to. And WELCOME aboard this website. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/moreno-valley-woman-killed-in-freak-accident-on-60-freeway-in-pomona/ar-AA1Kkqby
Wft2180 Posted August 15, 2025 Author #11 Posted August 15, 2025 Thankyou for the welcome, thanks for having me.

OC is very nice, though there is a small select group of “Snobs” in the area.
Gear Fanatic Posted August 15, 2025 #13 Posted August 15, 2025 Welcome Wft2180, glad to have you here and look forward to seeing what items you find in the future, there’s a lot of great militaria in California.

Negligible snobs there, great beach and lots of good restaurants. For a quieter beach, I like Laguna.
Gear Fanatic Posted August 15, 2025 #15 Posted August 15, 2025 Lagunas the best, Huntingtons ok, a lot of homeless some days. Laguna has some great Mtn. bike trails in the hills, great beachs, Mexican food, shops etc. Can't go wrong.
