Where to find information on ships

I was digging online looking for information about a ship my Grandpaw was on. The ship was the USS Bayfield and I could find nothing on line for the time he served on it during the 2nd Taiwan Straight crisis 1958-60. Nothing existed on line. A member was able to find the ships log for that time and pass that information on to me. This is the link he gave me to find ships.
