The Rooster Posted July 26, 2025 #1 Posted July 26, 2025 Greetings all. I picked up this Kevlar because it was cheap and I needed it because I dont have one in my collection. I honestly hated having to wear one of these. I wore an M1 from 82 to 86 and a Kevlar like this one from 86-98. They were just terrible things to have to wear. Hated the dam thing! Mainly it was the brim in front causing all kinds of problems... Must be why it was removed on the ACH.... And the other helmet shown here is an M1 that the owner had listed as a pasgt helmet. Gotta love folks selling things they dont understand. The M1 appears to be WW2 with a 50's liner and hopefully a very early woodland cover... Funny how the seller thought its a pasgt helmet! Got them both cheap. Cheers!
The Rooster Posted July 26, 2025 Author #2 Posted July 26, 2025 There were some serious problems with these Kevlars from a wearers perspective.... They were very heavy, I think heavier than the M1and the webbing left deep marks, webbing dents in your scalp if you wore it for any length of time. And you can imagine if you wore it all day and night, day after day...... Of course you can take it off from time to time but the majority of the time its on your melon. I wore a soft cap with the brim cut off and slits in it to vent heat, to lessen the impact of the webbing on my scalp. And the brim in the prone was always getting in the way of firing. And if you were unfortunate enough not to have your chin strap buckled and you were running or jumped over something, that brim would smack you hard on the bridge of your nose. Weren't supposed to sit on em, or drop em. At the time, I missed my M1. Even though it protected you better than an M1, It in my opinion was a bad design from a users perspective..... It seems like the padding in the ach and newer helmets might be much better on the wearer? And losing the brim was great! They do look cool though!
phantomfixer Posted September 11, 2025 #3 Posted September 11, 2025 Nice… the M1 looks to have a khaki sweat band?

I actually saw this m1 while looking at pastg vests, and wondered if the shell was ww2.
