This a neat canteen my nephew picked up somewhere. The canteen is marked RSE 1943. The cup is unmarked. What I think is odd is that the 2 were paired at some point because the cup has USA LV Dec 2 17 and Arv France Dec 17 17. It looks like the etching was done by 2 different tools. I also found a Russell Kandler on the enlistment website but it didn't say what division he was with. Obviously he was in the Phillipines. I just thought it is neat. Thanks for looking

Thanks for the pictures.  Interesting canteen and cup.  Good find.

Great to find a WW1 and a WW2 trench art piece(s) together!  I have to wonder if the "art" on the cup might have inspired Russell Kandler to add his inscription on the canteen???

Regardless, very cool set and a very interesting find. Thanks,

Forgot to ask, does the cup have a mfgs. date on it??

Maybe it's from a father (WWI) given to his son (WWII).....

That scenario would be too strange........................but I like it!

If I’m not mistaken, cups were not dated before 1917 when we entered WWI. So the father-son theory has some appeal. I like it too.

Thanks for the input guys. One more question. Anybody know what the E-1 or I and the A-1 or I would mean after Moratai and Mindanoa.

Thanks again Mark
