mamasherri Posted July 17, 2025 #1 Posted July 17, 2025 Good morning everyone. Does anyone know what these thing are? Also, is this pin the Tirante?
collectsmedals Posted July 17, 2025 #2 Posted July 17, 2025 The U.S.S. Tirante (SS-420) was Tench Class submarine launched August 9, 1944. They appear to be clips of some sort, maybe to mark a place in a book or ships log?
yokota57 Posted July 18, 2025 #3 Posted July 18, 2025 They may be "Napkin Clips" from the Officers Mess.
Dave Posted July 18, 2025 #4 Posted July 18, 2025 The "Third Officer" one is curious. That's not a normal Navy officer designation. Merchant Marine, sure. Navy, no.
Salvage Sailor Posted July 18, 2025 #5 Posted July 18, 2025 "Third Officer" is a now disused title aboard US Submarines. It was used to denote either the senior department head or the Wardroom Chief of the Boat (aka the COB) ...and yes, they are wardroom napkin holders/clips
