Matt4thCav Posted July 13, 2025 #1 Posted July 13, 2025 Hello, everyone. I recently bought this Pre WWI Dress Blue Uniform named C.R. Schmidt, dated 1913, rank of Lt. Colonel, Coast Artillery. I tried searching the online records but couldn't find anything. If anyone can help me find information, etc. Thank you very much. Matteo
QED4 Posted July 14, 2025 #2 Posted July 14, 2025 I am sorry to say this but I am pretty sure the shoulder straps on this uniform are much newer than 1913. The Army still uses this style today and the red gross grain background did not come into common use until after WWII. The early ones like your uniform should have a red felt background and the rank leaves tended to be more elongated on the older ones. Dose your uniform have a mohair band around the cuff?
