Lots of good detective work, and obviously some good detectives. Some good practical collecting advice , and folks helping each other out. USMF at its finest. mikie 100% it’s always nice to see everyone rally in one post 👍
P-59A Posted July 6, 2025 #52 Posted July 6, 2025 One possible meaning.... "Arrowhead The Alertness Symbol The Arrowhead, a crucial component of the arrow, takes on its symbolism. It represents alertness, readiness, and vigilance, characteristics essential for survival in the wilderness. Native Americans recognized the importance of staying vigilant in their daily lives, and the arrowhead serves as a constant reminder of this wisdom."
Gear Fanatic Posted July 6, 2025 Author #53 Posted July 6, 2025 That could be it? Still doesn’t explain the significance of the Number of them? Or maybe I’m overthinking it…
Gear Fanatic Posted July 6, 2025 Author #54 Posted July 6, 2025 Also, I’m 99% sure he is Muscogee, as he’s buried in Muscogee county as it says on his find a Grave.
P-59A Posted July 6, 2025 #55 Posted July 6, 2025 "The Arrowhead is another commonly used symbol in Navajo art. The Arrowhead symbolizes protection and defense and is often used in jewelry and pottery designs. It is believed that wearing or displaying the Arrowhead symbol can offer physical and spiritual protection."
Gear Fanatic Posted July 6, 2025 Author #56 Posted July 6, 2025 That makes sense, I searched it up specifically relating to Muscogee culture. I found that it signifies “the hunt” I also saw in another article that the number 4 is significant in there culture and with 24 being a multiple if maybe it means something.
Gear Fanatic Posted July 6, 2025 Author #57 Posted July 6, 2025 Also, would anybody be able to find out what unit he was with? Mind searching it up?
Gear Fanatic Posted July 6, 2025 Author #59 Posted July 6, 2025 Can’t make a request, Not allowed to. I am pretty young and parents got mad when I was walking through it and I needed to put down my social security number. So that’s out of the picture, any idea on an alternate option?

One should never taint the discussion with ones own opinion. I would want to hear a disinterested outside opinion or thought about the marks on the back of the cover.

Gear Fanatic Posted July 6, 2025 Author #65 Posted July 6, 2025 I’ll find his obit, I just want to have a picture of him, know when he was in country, and that’s about it. I just want to be able to set up a. Nice small display with a photo of him and a little info.

Your not understanding. Ask the elder his/her thoughts on the design (arrow heads) and the lay out (six rows of four x2} for further meaning or a better understanding. How old are you? I need better understanding.

In a small county you should have no problem finding his high school, that means his year book and that will have a photo. I'm gonna bet it was a small school. You should be able to track down his friends...maybe he signed up for service with his friends. Maybe the local paper ran a story. Maybe he had a girlfriend and wrote her letters or his ex or widow is still alive, maybe she has info....dig deeper!
Gear Fanatic Posted July 6, 2025 Author #68 Posted July 6, 2025 I’m a teenager. I hate to be that guy and not give you an exact number, but just prefer the barrier. I will ask the elder his thoughts, I may not have said it, but I’m working on it. I also found out our guy served from 1967-1970 according to the limited info I found on my heritage. I know it’s him because it’s the same name, and same date of birth and death. he was in country from 67-70 that could open up the possibility of the marks being months as it would add up fairly close. I will still try to get in contact with the elder. We’ll see what happens…
Gear Fanatic Posted July 6, 2025 Author #69 Posted July 6, 2025 I’m working in it, slow and steady with all the resources that don’t cost money or make me sign up and give my social security number. I’m still working with my friend on getting more info from his family in OK. The aunt is barely related to the guy so she doesn’t know much, and it sounds like he came through as extended family of extended family in his early post service years.

Call or email the local county library tomorrow and ask for help on this

You have no idea how long he was in Vietnam so do not say things you can not prove! Most guys did one tour of Vietnam. One tour equals one year. That is all you can say with any degree of confidence.
Gear Fanatic Posted July 6, 2025 Author #73 Posted July 6, 2025 Ohhhh, I thought that was in country service which I thought was a bit long… thanks for the clarification.
Gear Fanatic Posted July 7, 2025 Author #74 Posted July 7, 2025 The plan is to call here tomorrow when it’s not the middle of the night for OK, hopefully this department has some info ( it’s county historians apparently) on the arrows. I couldn’t find any elders or spiritual leaders of some kind, so this is the next best thing. I’ll keep you posted on what I find. I still don’t know how to find his unit. I’ve gone through so many differing sites and when I’m right there it makes me pay. Which is pretty frustrating. I’ll keep working at it though…
