Now we'll need to review the difference between 'true' and 'magnetic' courses when giving the helmsman instructions...

(we'll save 'relative' courses for a later lesson)

PS Hink, now you'll need one of these for your home bridge

I should have stated the “EOT” equals Engine Order Telegraph. Sorry for the confusion. 😁

No, no, not at all - I got the gist from the discussion. I just didn't know that's what they're called. Prior to this, I always referred to them as, "The round thing on the pedestal with the pointy handles that chimed when you changed the engine speed."  EOT is much easier to say!

This steering station came from an old US Army Corp of Engineers dredge. I bought this wheel from the family of a career USACE Mariner who worked the Great Lakes his entire career. Unfortunately they didn’t remember the name of the vessel, but it was removed from a dredge being scrapped on the Cleveland waterfront during the late 1960s to early 70s. Before and after clean-up pictures.

Here is my favorite wheel I own. This has been posted before but I think it belongs here also.

This is the original wheel from the USS Abraham Lincoln CVN-72. It was presented to the Lincoln’s first Executive Officer (XO) at the completion of his tour.

It's not a door, its a hatch and not for a standard ladder more for a trunk with a vertical ladder.

Oh WOW!! I would definitely have to enlarge the basement ladder well to accommodate that hatch. I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t fit through that scuttle anymore. 😳😂😂

Been working on an old steering station I found recently. Here are some before during and after pictures.

I finally decided to put a wheel on this old steering stand. This wheel is from the USS Coronado LPD-11.  I think it looks pretty good on this stand although this wouldn’t be the correct setup.

While cleaning up the steering stand I found this marking.

I believe this is an inspector’s stamp for the US Navy Bureau of Construction and Repair. Pre-1939 era.
