Howdy y’all! I’ve been collecting, mostly WW2 items, off and on since my grandad gave me his Ike jacket when I was about 8. I still collect as time, money and my better half permit, but I’m mostly here on the forum for the vast treasure trove of knowledge. Both of my grandads served in the Second World War, one was in the infantry and was with the 399th infantry regiment of the 100th ID and eventually ended up in the Constabulary post war. The other was in a coast artillery unit in the Aleutian Island chain before he was either transferred or that unknown unit was reorganized into the 540th field artillery battalion. While records and the combat history of the 399th are fairly well documented, I know next to nothing about the 540th other than they were sent to help bottle up the Lorient/ St. Nazaire pocket and there is one document about the battalion in an online archive. Anyways I look forward to picking some brains, doing some research and sharing my findings.

cheers all,
