WoskMilitary Posted June 5, 2025 #1 Posted June 5, 2025 We are newly registered, so I am experimenting to see if this counts as our #1 POST to achieve 30 posts. Our parents owned an ARMY-NAVY store in San Diego during the war. Most everything was boxed up in 1946 <?>. We 3 sisters started going through it maybe 25 (? ) years ago. Newspapers in which some inventory was bundled were dated l946. Here is a photo of the store on lower Broadway. The 'tall' building in the background was the Salvation Army. If this passes muster, we will be adding additional information. Thank you, Donna Wosk { { {. If this does Not constitute a Post, Please let us know . . .how to. I loathe computers ! } } }

Cobra 6 Actual Posted June 5, 2025 #4 Posted June 5, 2025 Hello and welcome. I’m sure many on here, myself included, would like to see what you’ve found in your parents’ store. As an aside, there used to be an Army surplus store in Washington DC on Pennsylvania Avenue many, many years ago. It had massive wooden bins filled with military patches, each for a nickel. Loved that place. I’m sure your family’s store was equally interesting!
Rakkasan187 Posted June 5, 2025 #5 Posted June 5, 2025 Donna, Welcome to the forum. Many years ago we met at an ASMIC Convention. It is nice to see you here. I remember you talking about the WOSK Store and you had some items with you for sale. Enjoy your time here.. Best regards Leigh
Manky bandage Posted June 5, 2025 #6 Posted June 5, 2025 Welcome to the forum, some patches made the journey across the pond to England too. I have a few with little wosk tickets attached.

WoskMilitary Posted June 6, 2025 Author #11 Posted June 6, 2025 #4 ? to: Bob Baird Bob ! Wow ! Very long time.... I hope you are well. Indeed, I do remember you. We certainly took a long hiatus. Y'all are so gracious welcoming us back. Altho we are going to disappoint a lot of folks - cuz the inventory is so depleted. Also, might I add - we dropped the yahoo and switched to gmail about a week ago. Take good care - - - when we get to x30 posts . . . Donna. ( Donna's superior computer skills: already making mistakes, and I just got here ! )

Some decades - literally DECADES - I received a tele. call from a Brit telling me he'd purchased something with our label. Could it be legit? Could be, say i. And do you have any more US Military? NO, said I, most emphatically. I was simply too wary to tell the chap that, yup. We've got boxes and boxes and boxes and.... If it was you, thank you. and Apologies for being over cautious. By the way, the NEW YORK TIMES this morning has an article about the WEATHER CONDITIONS that Brits & Yanks were trying to determine in advance of Normandy invasion - that goes to the WH trying to decimate NOAA. On that cheerful note... Thank you. Donna

WoskMilitary Posted June 6, 2025 Author #14 Posted June 6, 2025 # 6 <?>. .Fri. Jun 6-2025 Hi. Truth be told..... When we opened up all the boxes, I chanced to meet 2 fellows - how, I no longer remember - who helped us sort. At the time, I did not know to distinguish insignias - i.e. an EGA as Marine / Anchor etc... Dreadful ! Over the years y'all helped me learn so much - and importantly acquire a real appreciation for the treasure our parents left us. I remember when I unpacked the Cape Gloucester tabs - well, that's is a boring looking thing. Certainly Not worth anything. ahhhh - that was a really Really long time ago. Speaking of "appreciation," I heard on NPR this morning that the LOOPHOLE closed by Biden is now being re-opened, enabling for-profit "universities" to rip off young Vets with Expensive and useless "degrees" & certificates and draining off all their GI education benefits. What do y'all think of That ? {{ Rather reminiscent of Trump University - which ultimately forced him to repay/refund $ 25 Million.}} Donna

WoskMilitary Posted June 6, 2025 Author #16 Posted June 6, 2025 #7. Fri Jun 6-2025. Sorry - I erred. That is going to happen all too frequently. I mis-wrote; the "tall " building is in fact the Y M C A. on lower Broadway. And, Yes, it really is a ferris wheel atop another building. I do not actually remember ever seeing it. It was likely dismantled shortly after the war. Those of you who know cars can probably date the picture. Let us all know if you are able. Thank you, Donna
WoskMilitary Posted June 11, 2025 Author #17 Posted June 11, 2025 # 11 ? Jun 11-2025. Do you folks remember JOHN A STACEY. Years ago I purchased his b & w soft-cover U.S. NAVY RATING BADGES, which we still have. He was kind enough to write x3 hand-written letters, dated 17 October, 2000, September 3, 2001, September 22, 2001. We never met, but his assistance was much appreciated. If y'all would like to read his letters, I will be glad to photo. and post them. It just needs to wait until I have access to an appropriate camera. Thank you, Donna. Wosk --------
WoskMilitary Posted June 11, 2025 Author #18 Posted June 11, 2025 #12. Jun 11- 2025. In addition to strictly military inventory, there was also JEWELRY - diamond rings / Italian mosaic pins / watch bands. The latter x2 ( pins & watches ) we still have. Would it be correct to assume that other Army-Navy stores were similarly furnished? After all, guys had sweethearts. As I recall a young soldier happened to meet a lovely young lady who worked in the store and later married; they became our great family friends. . .. * *. And $-Belts which I found to be very useful Lots of Watches which, unfortunately, were never picked up by soldiers who left them for repairs.
WoskMilitary Posted June 11, 2025 Author #19 Posted June 11, 2025 #13. Wed. Jun 11- 2025. Hi again. Not sure if this is ok. We found Ephemera when we uncrated things. Here are a couple of pictures. Nothing outrageous - just fun to share with y'all. +++ Plus - How will I EVER get to x30 posts ! Thank you, Donna Wosk p.s. Do let know if you have an interest in viewing John Stacey's letters to me from 2000 / 2001 ( (That should be my # 11 Post ? ))

I was just trying Unsuccessfully to respond to a Cape Gloucester question. I am holding a Cape Gl. in my hand just this second. Those that remain all have a rather light cheer-cloth backing, I can make out the INVENTORY TAG #. 7MR 26. At the price off, wait for it: 25c.
servpels Posted June 18, 2025 #22 Posted June 18, 2025 Glad to see you on here, I don't post much but I do remember buying several patches from you years ago.
WoskMilitary Posted June 19, 2025 Author #23 Posted June 19, 2025 Thank you for writing. We will have items to sell - as soon as someone unlocks the "TO SELL". or FOR SALE <?> key for us. Did you notice the pictures we posted on the "WHAT'S IT WORTH?? " page ? I am hoping to get some help with that. If you happen to have any suggestions, we will be happy to hear from you. Thank you. But you did not sign your name ??? cheers, Donna
