Artillery find to be identified

Good evening to all, found on US artillery positions, the part is made of hard rubber and a shell wedge, If someone can tell me what this part was for, I have never seen it. in diameter it must be around 9 cm and 5 cm thick

Does anyone have any idea what it could be and what it could be used for?

I can’t be sure if I’m remembering correctly, but I seem to remember seeing something like that (without the rubber roller) identified as used to support artillery shells in their transport tubes.
