Aarhus192 Posted May 27, 2025 #1 Posted May 27, 2025 Hello Gentlemens. This is my first post on this forum! I have these two cal.30 boxes, I think its correkt WW2 era, but i would like to hear some opinions. Mabye some can say when the one was repacked saying out from the yellow text? Thank you. :)
mikie Posted May 27, 2025 #2 Posted May 27, 2025 Hello and welcome! I believe both cans are WWII era construction. Sorry but I cannot give an interpretation of the markings. I believe there is a post somewhere on the forum that explains them. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be able to answer you. mikie
doyler Posted May 27, 2025 #3 Posted May 27, 2025 Both are WW2. The one with the yellow lettering was re-packed post WW2 and may have Been Armor Piercing Incendiary Tracer (?)
Taber10 Posted May 27, 2025 #4 Posted May 27, 2025 The markings indicate 250 rounds of Cal .30 in web belts for the M1919 series Browning MGs. The actual mix would be four armor piercing cartridges then one tracer round, repeated for the entire 250 round belt. Van Balkenburgh's book, which lists repacked lot numbers, does not give specific years, but states (page 123) that the 900,000 series of lot numbers was repacked in 1946. Hope this helps.

Illinigander Posted May 29, 2025 #8 Posted May 29, 2025 I have heard that this style of metal ammo box is the first model of the metal, the more streamlined of ammo cans came later. Any opinions? illinigander
Illinigander Posted May 30, 2025 #10 Posted May 30, 2025 Thank you 917601. That is how I remembered difference. illinigander
