Here's an SNY buckle I picked up recently. It came from an older collection of random objects (CW artifacts, Indian arrowheads and pottery, old tools, random junk, etc.). The original owner was an accumulator, not a knowledgeable collector, and the guy selling the estate wouldn't be in a position to judge the originality either. To me the buckle looks completely convincing: good patina, minor damage to the front, even dirt remaining in the crevices. It has a body-shaped curve that I haven't seen in reproductions.

However, if you flip it over, the collector has helpfully marked it "Good Repro 1960s - 1970s". What do the experts here think? It certainly looks good to me and if I saw this at a relic show without the markings I wouldn't question it. Did the original owner get it wrong? If he did, it apparently led him to cut the belt hooks off because the cuts looks like they were done more recently. I don't know why he would have done this, maybe so it would lie flat for display? Who knows, but it's a real shame if this plate does turn out to be original.

Anyway, thanks for looking, and any information would be appreciated!

Mostly based on what's left of the hooks on the back, I believe it to be an aged reproduction.
