Early colt machine gun pinbacks

Good morning forum, can anyone identify these early colt machine gun pinbacks for me. Are they sweetheart jewelry? or possibly something officially issued. Sorry about yhe low photo quality.  Had to do a picture of a picture.  Thanks, Gary

Found a post from 2014 where some folks suggest may be sweetheart pin. Any additional info appreciated.

Often found pinned on WW1 soldier's overseas caps. "Sweetheart" pin may not be the best description for these and similar branch of service related WW1 pins, but they do fall into the category of unofficial souvenir items.
