This knife appears to be a PAL USMC Mark 2.   It’s marked PAL on one side

of the BLADE but is blank on the other.   Any ideas?   Did PAL have knives it released after the war with the USMC ground off?   There are no clear grind marks on the knife.   Any help is much appreciated

THANKS

could also be the Pal Navy version. Some are marked RH 37. Kabar had a knife only marked Kabar on one side.

Coles book shows a PAL only blade marking.

The one here is the USMC version (which is not a Mark 2) with PAL on one side.  The Navy Mark 2 had the marking RH "PAL over Made in USA in an oval" and then the number 37.  On the other side was "US NAVY," the only maker to mark the Mark 2s that way.  There were later marked PALs that had the USMC removed, but they had the RH 36 pommel.  This one appears all correct, so the reason it's missing the USMC is unknown.  Might be a manufacturing slip-up, but who knows.

Thank you so much.  I ended up buying it, so perhaps the mystery will clear a bit when I get a closer look.   I assumed it was USMC and maybe the the USMC is missing.   A bonus would be if the USMC was lightly stamped and not seen by the auctioneer….

And the answer is:…..  it appears to be a PAL USMC with an attempt to grind off the USMC.   The close up pic shows crime marks and also the top section of the letter C on the ricasso

the parkerization appears to be consistent throughout so I guess the USMC could have been removed at the factory prior to to Parker, or perhaps the blade was repressed later in its life or I guess that there is the odd chance that the USMC was ground off after it left the factory and someone skillfully blended the parkerization.

the knife is in excellent to near mint condition from what I can tell.  It is in slightly better shape that the PAL in my collection

thanks for all your help
