Cardinal Patrol

The only difference between the F4U-1C's and the F4U-1D's was the four M2 20mm cannons in place of the six 50 caliber Brownings on the D models. The cannons were much better for ground support roles. Only 200 C models were produced and these were used mainly by Marine fighter squadrons late in the war. This example is assigned to VMF-441 (pilot is unidentified).

Here is another unidentified Black Jack Squadron pilot with a F4U-1C. I do not believe there are any surviving C model bentwing birds.
